A beneficiary of the Renewed Hope Initiative in Anambra State, Mrs Amaechi Anyanwu, has commended the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, and the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, for bringing relief and dignity to elderly citizens.
The third edition of the initiative, held at the Banquet Hall, Light House, Awka, saw 250 senior citizens aged 65 and above receive ₦200,000 each. Mrs Tinubu was represented at the event by Mrs Soludo, wife of Governor Charles Soludo.
Mrs Anyanwu, a former woman leader of Fegge 4 and member of the Local Government Working Committee, described the intervention as unprecedented, noting that the support came at a critical time for her. She also appreciated Mrs Soludo for additional items distributed, including bags of rice, wrappers, food packs and transport support, in the spirit of Christmas.
She further praised the Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Emeka Orji, for what she described as effective and people-focused governance.
Addressing beneficiaries, Mrs Soludo urged them to prioritise their health and seek joy in old age, stressing that ageing should be marked by love, care and community support.
The Renewed Hope Initiative is a federal elderly support programme aimed at improving the welfare of senior citizens. Its third edition, themed “Finding Joy in Old Age,” has drawn widespread commendation for easing hardship among the aged amid prevailing economic challenges.
