Some Nigerian senators have called for a review of the country’s firearms law due to growing security challenges across the nation

The senator representing the Osun East, Francis Fadausi, said the current situation in the country shows increasing cases of insecurity, and many citizens are exposed to danger without proper protection. He added that as a result of this, they are pushing for a change in the law that would allow responsible Nigerians to own and carry firearms for self-defence.

Furthermore, they argue that self-defence is a basic right, especially when people are facing ilife-threatening situations and slow security response in some areas.

The proposal by the lawmakers has sparked debate, with some supporters saying it could help people protect themselves, while critics warn it may lead to more violence if not properly controlled.
