Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has called on residents across the state to embrace environmentally responsible practices as part of efforts to secure a healthier and more sustainable future.

Speaking in a message to mark the 2026 World Environment Day, themed “Climate Action,” Dr. Soludo stressed that environmental responsibility is central to public health, community well-being, and long-term development.

She noted that the environment directly influences human survival, pointing to the air people breathe, the water they consume, and the conditions in which communities live as critical factors in overall health outcomes.

“World Environment Day reminds us that healthy living begins with a healthy environment,” she said. “A cleaner environment is not just about aesthetics; it is about protecting lives, preventing diseases, and securing a healthier future for our children.”

Dr. Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, urged households, schools, markets, and community leaders to adopt practical steps toward environmental sustainability. These include proper waste disposal, maintaining clean surroundings, tree planting, and building stronger environmental awareness at the grassroots level.

She reaffirmed the commitment of her initiative to promoting a lifestyle where personal health and environmental hygiene work hand in hand, describing it as a necessary foundation for sustainable development.

The First Lady further encouraged collective action, calling on residents to support efforts aimed at building a “greener, cleaner, smarter, and healthier Anambra State.”

World Environment Day is observed globally on June 5 to raise awareness and drive action for environmental protection.
