Former Ogbaru Council Chairman, Awogu, Others Invested Into Knight Of St. Christopher

Former Ogbaru Local Government Transition Chairman, Hon. Arinzechukwu John Awogu was among the successful candidates invested into the order of Knighhood of St. Christopher by the Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru diocese, Rt, Rev’d Prosper Ama at St. James Anglican Church Ogbaru.

The candidates for the Knighthood after presentation and examination by Bishop Prosper Ama took Oath of allegiance to God.

Earlier in his sermon, Bishop Ama disclosed that Knight members are known by their life style, disposition and character, stressing that what one does for the Church qualifies him/ her for the position of Knighthood.

The Bishop told the newly conferred Knights that their investiture is a call to duty in the Church of God, charging them to always emulate the life of Saint Christopher.

Speaking shortly after the ceremony, Hon. Sir Arinzechukwu Awogu expressed his gratitude to the Church for conferring  him the honour.

“I am happy that today our activities all along for the society and for the body of Christ is being recognized in this manner. The investiture to the order of the Knighthood of St. Christopher is now a new feat and I am grateful to the Church who has found me worthy to be conferred with the prestigious order.”

Sir. Awogu who stated that he felt honoured and fulfilled for being recognized by the Church said: “As a matter of fact, this is the fourth attempt of the recognition. The first one I had reason to turn it down, the second one, I had reason to turn it down, the third one, I had reason to turn it down. But the fourth one, there is no reason to turn it down.” 

Awogu, a candidate for the Federal House of Representatives for Ogbaru constituency in the forthcoming 2023 general election, affirmed that the honour of Knighthood is another assignment given to him which he said includes defending the faith and to be committed to inform the people of the world to do the right thing and ensure that the Church of Christ spread.

Sir. Arinze Awogu who voluntarily  resigned as the Ogbaru Transition Council Chairman in order to oblige to the request of his people to represent them in the Green Chamber, used the opportunity to call on the people of the world and people of goodwill to come to the aid of communities in Ogbaru whose lands and businesses have been submarged  by water for the past two months.

He disclosed that the council area is currently experiencing what they had never experienced since its history. He also said the communities in the area have lost everything: “the people have no food for them to eat,  culverts, bridges,  houses have collapsed and people are hanging on the top of roof and tree in order to survive.”

He attributed the perennial flood in Ogbaru to bad representation by the  political leaders and government’s insensitivity to the plights of the citizens, stating that if Federal Government could have built standard dam like Republic of Cameroon, flood incidents would not occure.

Commending the admission of Sir. Awogu into the Knighthood of St. Christopher, the board member of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Hon. Dame Chinyere Mbakwe noted that Sir Awogu deserves the honour, describing him as a fighter, goal getter and a man with large heart.

She revealed that the former COgbaru ouncil boss is a trusted and tested candidate that has capacity to represent Ogbaru effectively in the Green Chamber, saying that Ogbaru needed a vibrant representive like Sir. Awogu.

Similarly, the Transition Council Chairman of Orumba South LG, Hon. Prince Neville Uchendu referred Sir. Awogu as a dogged politician and embodiment of wisdom, saying that Church has given him sword to go and conquer, win in the Church and in his Constituency.
