Bishop Ikeakor, Agusiobo to Speak at NUJ Anambra 35th Anniversary, 2026 Awards

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council is set to mark 35 years of existence with a keynote address by the Bishop of Amichi, Rt. Rev. Dr. Ephraim Ikeakor, and a guest lecture by former NUJ Chairman, Comrade Sir Victor Agusiobo.

NUJ Anambra Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, JP, PhD, disclosed this on Thursday during the union’s monthly congress at the Godwin Ezeemo Press Centre, Awka.

According to him, the 35th anniversary and 2026 awards ceremony will hold in Awka during the first week of September 2026.

“Our Lord Bishop of Amichi, Rt. Rev. Dr. Ephraim Ikeakor, will be our keynote speaker, while the former Anambra State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Sir Victor Agusiobo, will be our guest speaker,” Odogwu said.

“We are now ready for the 35th anniversary and 2026 awards celebration.”

He said the union had received approval from the national body for each chapel to nominate a former member who is financially up to date for recognition.

Odogwu urged all members to attend the September events, adding that there would be refreshments and gifts for participants.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, who was on his first visit to the union in his second term, thanked members for praying for his return.

“I did not see it as an extraordinary performance because those who did not return also worked hard. It is by God’s grace. I have fully resumed and I am here to report to you,” he said.

Mefor, a media professional, said he was committed to the union and commended members for fair reportage of the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo administration.

“I recall that when I resumed office, I accused Dr. Odogwu and NUJ members of poor reportage in Anambra. I cannot say that now. There has been massive improvement. I plan to start a quarterly media briefing to review government activities and take your views on how to do better,” he added
