SON Allots MANCAP To 20 Corporations Operating In Anambra
Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, has issued Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme, MANCAP Certificates to twenty firms operating in Anambra State.
It also validated the MANCAP Certificate of two other companies during as event, at the SON office in Awka, with the awardees in attendance.
Over now to Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that MANCAP is a policy put in place by the federal government with the objective of improving the quality of life of the citizens by ensuring that all locally manufactured products conform to the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards, NIS, before they are allowed into the open market.
Addressing the representatives of the companies, the Director General of SON, Mr. Farouk Salim, who spoke through the South East Regional Coordinator, Engineer Nwaoma Olujie explained that the certification of the companies is a testimonial that their products have satisfied the requirements of the applicable national standard, hence, they can produce world class products.
He encouraged the manufacturers to also focus on producing for export and assured that the organization will continue to promote locally manufactured products and showcase them to the world, for patronage.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Anambra State Coordinator of SON, Engineer Onipede Adeoye while congratulating the certified companies on their new status in business sector, reminded them that with the MANCAP Certificate, their products are placed on quarterly surveillance quality audit to ensure continuity, sustainability and conformity to the standards, warning that if any of the companies is found wanting in the course of the factory inspections and quality audits, the certificate will be withdrawn.
In a vote of thanks, the Head, Electrical Department, Anambra State SON, Awka, Engineer Virginus Omeje advised the manufacturers to always work towards product quality improvement in order to gain more trust and patronage of the consumers.
In their speeches, some of the awardees, including Messrs. Emeka Batholomew, Osmond Nguh and Obasi Michael, while promising to uphold quality in their productions, called on both federal and state governments to tackle some of the challenges facing manufacturers in Nigeria, including poor power supply, multiple taxation, and deterioration of naira value, among others.
