The Senate President and presidential aspirant on the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Olusola Saraki, said yesterday that Nigeria needs a President who will propel the country to rub shoulders with the Asian Tigers through his visionary leadership.

Saraki, in Awka to solicit support for PDP delegates to the presidential convention coming on October 6 said the country has slided backwards because the President does not understand what it takes to build the economy.

He also said that Nigeria needs a President who will give every citizen a sense of belonging.

But to have such a person he continued, he must have youthful energy and be digital and have the political sagacity to redirect the country.

Saraki said :”We are in cross roads and we must redirect our country.

“Today, many people do not have a sense of belonging; they are not sure whether they are citizens or not; there is poverty in the land.

“We see other countries, especially the Asian Tigers as they develop. They did not attain their development by sentiment. They put visionary leaders in power.

“Today, countries are moving forward because they understand what it takes to build the economy.

“We need a President who if you see him, you know he is your president, he is a Nigerian, has youthfulness and be digital.

“All these cannot happen if we don’t get the right person. It cannot happen by sentiment. He must be one who has the political sagacity to direct things”, Saraki said.

In their responses, leaders of the party in the state pledged their support but insisted that they must be put into consideration in the scheme of things.

Governorship candidate in the November governorship election in Anambra state, Hon. Oseloka Obaze who attended the meeting with his running mate said Nigeria is challenged and the first task is to take power from the center.

But much as Saraki is capable of that, he and his colleagues must take Anambra serious.

Also speaking, acting chairman of the party, Chief Ndubisi Nwobu demanded that the position of Vice presidential running mate be reserved for Anambra state, if for no other thing for the sacrifices made by Dr. Alex Ekwueme, one of the founding fathers of PDP.
