New students ‘ll undergo additional technical skills- Provost

Dr Wahab Azeez, the Provost, Federal College of Education (FCE) (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, says the newly admitted students to the college will be exposed to additional technical skills in the course of their study.

Azeez made this known on Friday at the matriculation of 324 students into the NCE Distance Learning Programmes (DLP) for  the 2020/2021 academic session.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Primary Education Studies has the highest number of new students with 161, while Early Childhood and Care Education has 48 students.

Azeez assured the new students of quality education under the tutelage of well trained and qualified academic staff of the college.

The matriculating students taken their matriculation oath and signing the authority rules and regulations.

“Having taken the matriculation oath and signing the authority rules and regulations today, you are hereby fully integrated in the academic community as bonafide students of this great college.

“Be assured that you will derive maximum benefits in addition to your core programmes, other technical skills you will be exposed to as distance learners are online research, word processing.

“Video conferencing, slide presentations, discussion, collaborative applications (like slack), social networking, email correspondence, post information to a Wiki/website/blog, video creation and so on,” he said.

Azeez advised them to pursue their studies with necessary vigour and total commitment.

He added that the school expects  them to be  shining models of exemplary behaviour to academic excellence.

Also, Mr Oti Eyetsemitan, the Director of DLP,  charged the matriculating students to set their achievable goals and shun bad company, hooliganism, cultism, examination malpractices and other social vices.

“You have taken a wise decision to be part of this programme.

“I charge you, in this journey, to be diligent in your studies, don’t be static and as much as possible avoid procrastination,” he  said.

Eyetsemitan lauded the DLP coordinators for their commitment and diligence over the years, which he said, had remained significant to the growth of the programme.

He urged the committee members and members of staff to sustain the tempo.

In his remarks, Mr Jubril Kola, the college Students Union President, enjoined the students to stay away from drug abuse, sexual harassment or anything that would affect their peaceful stay or cause chaos in the academic environment.

“We are delighted you are now part of the FCT (Technical) family, note that your are joining an education centered institution that seeks to integrate the intellectual, moral, ethical and social development of students.

“I must declare that the vision of this college emphasises integrity, academic achievement, employability, hardwork, high moral standard and frowns  against all form of indiscipline,” he advised.

Kola urged the students to attend all lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and laboratory sessions.

He advised them to make best use of their times in the college. (NAN)
