A clergyman, Pastor Elijah Babajide, has decried the high level of unemployment in the country, but advised young graduates and job seekers not to be discriminatory and selective in seeking employment.

Babajide of Christ Grace Church gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Friday, attributing the high level of unemployment to this attitude.

“Graduates should accept small jobs, rather than staying idle waiting for big jobs,’’ the religious leader said.

He said many graduates lose job opportunities because of their ego and over-reliance on their certificate.

“Graduates must learn to stay humble and accept small jobs. You need to start somewhere to get to the peak.

“Stop discriminating against jobs and start somewhere. Stop complaining and learn to accept small offers. Rome was not built in a day.

“Most graduates have too much ego. It needs to stop. Your university or polytechnic certificate does not guarantee big jobs automatically after school.

“Just stay humble and be focused on whatever you can lay your hands on,” he advised.

The cleric also advised Nigerian youths to be creative and stop waiting for government to do everything for them.

He further appealed to government at all levels to prioritise youths in their policies and ensure improved infrastructure that would assist the youths to realize their full potentials in the country. (NAN)
