Okonkwo Unveils Legislative Agenda, Claims Strong Solution to Idemili Erosion Crisis

Political conversations around Idemili North and South Federal Constituency took a sharper turn on Thursday as a House of Representatives

Political conversations around Idemili North and South Federal Constituency took a sharper turn on Thursday as a House of Representatives hopeful under the Action Alliance (AA), Hon. Ikechukwu Okonkwo, outlined what he described as a comprehensive development blueprint aimed at tackling long-standing environmental and socio-economic challenges in the area.

Speaking during a media interaction at the monthly congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka, Okonkwo positioned himself as a frontrunner with what he termed a “practical and ready-to-activate plan” to address the persistent erosion problem affecting several communities in the constituency.

According to him, the erosion menace remains one of the most critical threats to infrastructure and livelihoods in the area, insisting that he already possesses a strategic solution but would not disclose full details publicly to avoid political opponents adopting it ahead of implementation.
He stated that if elected into the National Assembly, his first line of action would be to deploy the proposed framework to permanently address the environmental challenge that has lingered for years.

Okonkwo also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NUJ Anambra State Council, led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD, for providing a platform for engagement with journalists and stakeholders.

Beyond environmental concerns, he pledged to push for legislation that would improve electricity supply across communities in Idemili North and South, arguing that stable power would stimulate small and medium-scale enterprises and drive local industrial growth.
He further outlined plans to sponsor bills aimed at strengthening community security architecture, expanding access to federal educational support schemes for indigent students, and increasing employment opportunities for constituents in federal agencies.

The AA candidate, who said he was among the founding members of the Village Boys Movement, also promised closer collaboration with journalists, noting that sustained engagement with the media would enhance accountability and governance in the constituency.

In addition, he proposed tax relief measures for low-income traders within the constituency’s major markets, saying such interventions would ease business pressures and encourage entrepreneurship.

“I am not going to the National Assembly to occupy space,” he said. “I am going there to work. My focus is to ensure that the challenges affecting my people are addressed directly. Traders, especially small-scale operators, deserve tax relief to help their businesses grow.”
In his remarks, the Chairman of NUJ Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD, commended Okonkwo for engaging with journalists and encouraged continued partnership built on openness and mutual respect.
