Anambra Police Command Reestablishes Strong Presence, Patrols On Roads

Anambra state Police command has resumed regular security patrols and manning of check points across the state.

The State Police Command also assesses various flash points in the state, Police check points, patrol teams and security posts to ascertain the level of damage done during the recent unrest and the level of normalcy restored so far as well as get information on crimes committed during the absence of the police on roads in order to te-strategize measures to secure lives and property of the state’s residents.


Addressing Journalists, the Anambra state Commissioner of Police Mr. John Abang said the move became imperative due to continuous criminal activities by some misguided elements who are bent on robbing members of the public of their belongings especially during the yuletide and assured that police personnel have been deployed to all parts of the State to ensure normalcy.

Mr. Abang who spoke through the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed explained that the State police personnel have been sensitized and briefed on Police Public relations while their welfare is being taken care of by the federal government.


The Police Commissioner also explained that a total number of ten persons have been arrested during the first day of their resumption of patrols at Upper Iweka Onitsha.

He extolled the state residents for their support and partnership in rebuilding the vandalized facilities and appreciated their unrelenting support to the Command which he said has demonstrated that there is existing peace, love and acceptance between Ndi Anambra and the police.

Reacting to the return of the security agencies to their posts, a petty trader, Mrs. Ebele Nwoye and a road user, Chief PC Emenaka at Oye-Agu junction, Ifitedunu said that the development has restored their confidence in going about their businesses without fear and urged the state residents to remain law abiding.


A newspaper vendor at Ugwu-Nwasike Ogidi Ifesinachi Kalu and Ejike Obiana recalled how dangerous the area had become due to the absence of the police personnel as residents of the area have been living in fear.

Other places visited included, Amawbia Round About, off old Enugu-Onitsha Express Way Check Point, Enugwu-Ukwu-Abagana Boundary Check Point, Upper Iweka Onitsha, Obodo-Ukwu Junction, Bridge Head Onitsha and Three-Three Check Point.
