Unizik student wins essay competition

A two hundred level student of Human Anatomy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Esther Ijeoma Okeke has emerged the winner of Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation’s Essay Competition for Undergraduates in the seven local government areas of Anambra Central Senatorial Zone.

Miss Okeke led other forty-one awardees from the participating communities and local government areas to the award presentation which held in Awka, the State Capital Territory.

Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation is a registered charity organization in Nigeria and Canada, founded in 2019 to advance better living for every member of society.

The essay competition which is its first in the series had the competitors write on “Governance In Nigeria: How the Youths Can Get Involved”

For the award, the best from each of the communities were rewarded with cash prizes while overall bests in each of the seven local government areas and the three overall bests in the senatorial zone were rewarded with cash prizes and full scholarship awards throughout their University education.

The First overall second runner up is Stephen Ochibulu, a two hundred level student of Applied Biochemistry at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and the second runner up Paschal Okpalanweze, is a HND two Banking and Finance Student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede.

Sir Ikem Onwuadi, President, Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation and President General of Abagana Community said this maiden edition of essay competition which had over three thousand participants will become an annual event that will create a consciousness of a better society and reorientation on the youths.

The Chairman on the occasion and Founder, Otu Suwakwa Igbo, Professor Pita Ejiofor on his part expressed optimism that the participants will advance the solutions they suggested in the essays thereby becoming beacons for change, while he called on governments at all levels to look into the yearnings of the heart of the young people to create a better Nigeria.

The overall Winner, Miss Okeke, the first runner up, Mr Ochibulu, the second runner up, Mr Okpalanweze and the winner from Ukpo Community, Mr Chuka Egebe praised the foundation for the opportunity while emphasizing that the competition helped them feel a sense of belonging to call for a better Nigeria.

The Chairman, Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Anambra Central Senatorial Zone and Traditional ruler of Akwaeze, Igwe Christopher Okpala; the traditional ruler of Abagana, Igwe Mbamalu Okeke and the traditional ruler of Urum, Igwe Benedict Nweke led Presidents General of the Communities under the senatorial district to the event to show solidarity and support to the winners and Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation.

Special performance by Odenjiji Igbo added glamour to the event.
