Synod Communique: Crime increasing in Anambra – Anglican Church tells Obiano

Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion in Anambra state has raised an alarm over the increasing spate of crime on Anambra state.

The diocese therefore asked Governor Willie Obiano led government to rise up to the challenge and stop the rising wave of crimes in the state.

The warning was contained in a communique delivered during the 31st Synod of the Diocese on the Niger (Anglican Communion), held at St. Michaels Anglican Church Nnobi.

The Synod condemned the increasing crime rate in the state generally perceived as one of the safest states in Nigeria and called on the State Government to do something to stem the tide of increasing crime rate in the State.

The Synod also reminded the state government of the need to ignore the tag that Anambra state has the best network of roads in the country and fix poor state of the township and rural roads particularly now that the heavy rains are back.

On the ravaging cases of erosion in the state, the Anglican faithfuls called on the State and Federal government to come to the rescue of parts of the State that are being ravaged by erosion with particular concern on the recent incessant collapse and caving-in of houses in parts of Onitsha , Nnewi and environs.

The Anglican faithfuls further prayed for peaceful conduct of the upcoming governorship election even as they called on the political class in the State to ensure that the gentleman’s agreement reached on zoning of governorship position in the State is sustained during the forthcoming gubernatorial primary elections among political parties in the State, so as not to push the state into political crisis.

The Synod commended the State Governor, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano and the State Ministry of Education on their efforts to meet the educational need of students during the novel COVID 19 pandemic through the program “Anambra Teaching on Air,” while also calling on parents to ensure that their children participate in the program in accordance with the set time tables.

The synod with the theme “WALK IN THE SPIRIT” as contained in Gal. 5: 16 NKJV was presided over by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, Bishop on the Niger alongside distinguished personalities including, the Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Ibezim, Archbishop of the province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, who also represented the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of all Nigeria, the Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba and other Archbishops.
