Igbariam (Anambra), March 22, 2020 The Anambra North Traditional Rulers’ Council has warmed political parties fielding candidates for the 2021 governorship election in the state against zoning the position to any senatorial district.

HRM Igwe Nkeli-Nzekwe Kelly, traditional ruler of Igbariam community and patron, Anambra North Traditional Rulers’ Council gave the warning at his palace shortly after the meeting of the council in Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra on Sunday.

The traditional rulers’ position might be in reaction to recent media reports that some leaders in Anambra had endorsed the zoning of next year’s governorship position to Anambra South district.

He said that zoning the position might be inimical as it might lead to bickering and other activities which could affect peace, security and development of the state.

Kelly said though the royal fathers are not involved in partisan politics their decision on the matter was to nip in the bud obvious danger such political decision might portend for the state.

“My opinion and that of my colleagues is that there should be nothing like zoning of governorship position by political parties in Anambra by 2021 because it will be wrong that some parties will claim that they have zoned the position to a particular zone and yet allow people from other zones to contest.
