Anambra State Assembly Calls For Harnessing Of Tourism Potential To Boost IGR.

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Diaspora Affairs and Culture has charged the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism to harness tourism potential of Anambra State to generate income for the state.

The Chairman of the committee, Honourable Emma Nwafor stated this when the committee paid a familiarization visit to the Ministry in Awka.

House of Assembly correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the Legislator while commending the efforts of Governor Willie Obiano in repositioning tourism in Anambra state asked the Ministry to work towards the preservation and promotion of rich cultural heritage of the state and turning erosion sites into tourist sites which he said will generate income for the state.

The Committee also called for increased allocation to the Ministry to enable it realize the vision of Governor Willie Obiano for the state.

Receiving the committee, the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Christian Madubuko who informed the Committee that he has undertaken assessment tour of tourist attractions in Anambra State, revealed that the state is blessed with tourism potentials which if well developed, will reposition the state.

Dr Madubuko said the primary objective of the Ministry is to encourage indigenes of Anambra in the diaspora to contribute to the development of the state, which has to touch every sector of government.

Dr Mmmadubuko who described tourism as a major revenue drive of most developed countries, assured that he would partner the Anambra state House of Assembly to realize the objective of the Ministry.
