Anambra Engineer Raises Safety Concerns Over New Demarcation On First Niger Bridge
An experienced Anambra engineer, @Engr Ekwoanya Ebuka has raised concerns over the new demarcation on the First Niger Bridge, questioning whether the additional dead load was adequately considered in the bridge’s original design.
He also pointed to the increasing axle loads of heavy-duty trucks using the bridge, suggesting that the load-bearing capacity of the old structure should be analysed before additional loads are introduced.
According to him, a proper assessment could determine whether further structural reinforcement, including possible foundation underpinning, is necessary to improve the bridge’s stability.
