Soludo’s Wife, Environment Commisioner , ASEWSCHA Boss Campaign Green Sustainable Anambra State

The wife of Anambra state governor Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo joined other environmentalists and stakeholders to campaign , a sustainable green Anambra state .
She spoke as the state dedicates June 10 every year as Tree Planting Day with this year,’s exercise witnessing planting of 200 trees:
While flagging off the campaign, the wife of the State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo encouraged the indegenes and residents in the State to inculcate the habit of planting trees to save ,beautify the environment and save it from ecological deterioration.
She observed that environmental sustainability is one of the pillars of the administration of the State and in line with her Nonye Soludo Healthy Living and called on the citizens not to cut down trees for cooking wook, adding that such tree cutting is killing the environment "
Declaring the event open, yesterday, the State Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu said the initiative will help to fight erosion as most communities in the State are erosion-prone.
Odimegwu, said the State’s vision is to see the roads on the Anambra State’s streets, roads, and highways adorned with trees, creating a green canopy, urging the citizenry to join in the greening journey to transform the State with nature.
He disclosed that tree-planting enhances the ecological and climate resilience of the State, and the tree planting and urban forestation initiative is intended to revive eroded lands and beautify the environment.
The Commissioner noted that tree planting will ensure the state’s land still left for generations yet unborn, that the essence of the exercise is also to ensure stability of the soil because roots of trees help to hold the soil together.
He said the State from inception has launched the “one house, two trees” campaign, an initiative by which every land-owner plants at least two trees within his compound.
He said that the
35% green spacing initiative of this Government mandates that every land developer dedicates 35% of their land to green areas, including gardens and tree cover. The Commissioner said the State has
designated June 10th every year as Anambra Tree Planting Day, which is included in the Environmental Bill before the State House of Assembly.
The Commissioner hinted that the government will enforce the law that stipulates that if an individual cuts down one plant, he/she replaces same with three as a punitive measure.
Continuing, he said:
“We have distributed and planted over one million hybrid Malaysian coconut trees and oil palm seedlings annually across all 21 Local Government Areas by sustainably empowering her citizens with these seedlings to plant.
Odimegwu listed the State’s key reforestation projects to include the Unizik Forest Reserve, Enugwu Ukwu erosion site, Ekwueme Square, and the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Collaborating, the Managing Director and Chief Executive
of Anambra State Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change Agency, Prof. Phil Eze lauded Governor Soludo for keying into tree-planting exercise which he observed the Agency is in the fore-front of checking erosion menace.
According to him, the government is committed to enhancing the ecological and climate resilience of the State, emphasizing that the tree planting launch and urban aforestation initiative are aimed at reviving eroded lands and beautify our environment
