Nise Rising: Soludo Commissions Ultra-Modern Market, Applauds Community Development Efforts

NISE, ANAMBRA STATE — The people of Nise Kingdom in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State witnessed a historic milestone on Friday, June 5, 2026, as the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, commissioned the newly completed Nise Ultra-Modern Market.
The commissioning ceremony attracted a large turnout of residents, indigenes, non-indigenes, traditional leaders, political stakeholders, and guests from within and outside the community, all gathered to celebrate what has been described as a landmark achievement in community-driven development.

Among the dignitaries present were the President General of Nise Town Union, Barrister Tony Nwabuona (Ozo Nzezuo Nise); the Traditional Ruler of Nise Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Igwe Romanus Iloh (Ugochimelieze Nise); members of the royal cabinet; political office holders; APGA faithful; and other prominent sons and daughters of the community.
The event featured colourful cultural performances by various musical groups, goodwill messages, and speeches by community leaders and the Governor.
Governor Soludo’s arrival was greeted with excitement and celebration as cultural troupes, musicians, and community groups welcomed him with songs, chants, and traditional musical displays. The atmosphere became even more vibrant as residents cheered and applauded while the Governor made his way to the ceremonial arena.
Accompanied by the President General, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other dignitaries, Governor Soludo acknowledged the warm reception with smiles and waves to the enthusiastic crowd.
Following the reception, the Governor was taken on an inspection tour of the newly constructed market by community leaders led by the President General. Observers noted his admiration for the project as he interacted with stakeholders and examined the facilities provided within the market complex.

In his welcome address, Barrister Tony Nwabuona expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for honouring the community’s invitation to commission the project. He described the occasion as a historic moment that would remain a significant chapter in the story of Nise Kingdom.
According to him, the 300-shop Ultra-Modern Market represents the collective aspirations and determination of the people of Nise to advance economic development and create opportunities for traders and entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo commended the people of Nise for their unity, cooperation, and commitment to community development.
“When a community is united and determined to achieve a goal, there is virtually no limit to what it can accomplish,” the Governor said. “If there is no peace, there will be no progress. What we are celebrating here today is the result of collective effort and shared vision.”
The Governor described the market as a practical example of the Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model being promoted by his administration as a strategy for accelerating development across Anambra State.
He noted that government alone cannot solve all developmental challenges and emphasized the importance of collaboration between communities, the private sector, and government institutions.
Commissioning the facility, Governor Soludo praised the quality of infrastructure provided in the market, including ample parking spaces, solar-powered lighting, water supply, toilet facilities, security arrangements, and fire-resistant shops.
“This market meets the requirements of a modern community market. It is a project that demonstrates what communities can achieve when they come together with a common purpose,” he said.
The Governor further encouraged other communities across the state to emulate the Nise example by initiating similar development projects through community participation and partnership.
He officially declared the market open for business and prayed for prosperity, peace, and security for traders and all who would benefit from the facility.
Addressing journalists after the commissioning, Barrister Nwabuona revealed that plans to develop the market had existed for several years but were delayed by legal disputes involving the proposed site.
He explained that upon assuming office as President General, his administration initiated reconciliation efforts among the parties involved, leading to the withdrawal of court cases and the restoration of peace necessary for the project to proceed.
According to him, the successful completion of the market was made possible through community crowdfunding and financial contributions from public-spirited indigenes of Nise.
Barrister Nwabuona disclosed that the project was designed in line with Governor Soludo’s vision for modern markets, particularly the principle that “if you cannot park, you cannot shop,” which informed the provision of extensive parking facilities within the complex.
He added that the market is equipped with modern amenities including solar-powered street lighting, toilet facilities, water supply systems, security infrastructure, and fire-resistant shops.
Describing the facility as a model market, he emphasized that it is intended to serve not only the people of Nise but traders and customers from across Anambra State and beyond.
Also speaking at the event, the National Youth Leader of Nise, Hon. Chinaza Okoye, described the market as one of the flagship projects initiated under the leadership of Barrister Tony Nwabuona despite the challenges that initially surrounded its development.
He encouraged residents of Awka South and neighboring communities to patronize the market and take advantage of the opportunities it offers.
Hon. Okoye further highlighted the important role of youths in ensuring the sustainability and proper management of the facility. He noted that young people are among the major beneficiaries of the project, revealing that approximately 50 percent of the shop owners are youths.
The commissioning of the Nise Ultra-Modern Market marks a significant milestone in the community’s development journey and stands as a testament to what can be achieved through unity, visionary leadership, and collective investment in the future.
