The Assistant Inspector -General of Police in charge of zone 9, Umuahia, Hosea Karma, has received a rare commendation from human right groups for his civilian -Police relationship.
The Human Rights, Liberty Access, and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIJE) and the Campaign for Democracy (CD) in a joint statement said that his commitment to ensure Civil-Police relationship when he was Commissioner of Police in Anambra State and even now he holds sway as the AIG zone 9, has earned him the respect of human right groups and award.
In the joint statement signed by Dede Uzor A.Uzor, chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) HURIJE and national Publicity secretary of CD, the groups said when he was a Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, he fought crime with everything in him and brought it to the barest minimum including corruption and other unethical practices.
“And as AIG there is no more kidnapping and bank robbery in the South East like before when Ofeakwu and other criminals had field day” the groups said.
They said Karma was one of the most experienced Police officers the country has now, expressing their elation that since he became AIG zone 9 undue interference in Police Commands by officers from the zone has drastically reduced.
They also commended Karma for setting up special investigating team to arrest and punish erring Police officers within the zone, which has drastically reduced corruption.
“We urge the President to consider officers like Karma for top Police job when the tenure of the present IG expires by February next year.
“We have no doubt in our mind that he will make good IGP”said the right groups.
