Soludo Begins Nnewi Urban Renewal, Targets Dormant Assets for Redevelopment

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has launched an aggressive inspection tour of Nnewi as part of a strategic shift in his administration’s urban renewal agenda, targeting dormant public assets and infrastructure bottlenecks that have stifled the city’s commercial growth.
The tour, which covered several key sectors of the industrial city, served as a diagnostic mission to identify underutilized land and neglected facilities for immediate redevelopment.
The Governor’s most prominent stop was the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, where a shopping complex has remained uncompleted for 17 years. Standing before the abandoned structure, Soludo expressed frustration at the prolonged delay.

“It is unacceptable that public assets meant to drive commerce have been left to rot for nearly two decades,” Governor Soludo said. “We are drawing a line in the sand. This facility will no longer be a monument to neglect. We are moving swiftly to restore it to productive use for the people of Nnewi.”
Beyond the mall, the Governor inspected the Post Office vicinity and High Court premises. His administration’s plan involves integrating these legacy sites into a cohesive, modern urban blueprint aimed at improving accessibility and public service delivery.
Soludo also scouted locations for strategic housing developments. Officials said quality residential infrastructure is critical to sustaining Nnewi’s growing workforce and maintaining its edge as a commercial hub.
The Governor disclosed that his government is mapping out underutilized open spaces across the city for conversion into public parks, recreational areas, and new commercial ventures.
“Our strategy is simple: we are unlocking the hidden value of Nnewi,” he told local stakeholders. “By converting dormant spaces into vibrant parks and productive facilities, we are not just fixing buildings — we are stimulating commerce and reclaiming Nnewi’s rightful place as the premier industrial nerve center of the region.”
Construction and redevelopment works are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
