Rotary extends humanitarian service to 98 yr old woman in Anambra

A 98 year old Madam Marble Chinwude Nkwoukwu Nwogbo (Nee Nwajiobi) of Umuanum village, Ifite Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra state was yesterday, gifted by the Rotary Club of Awka, GRA, Anambra state.

www.odogwublog.com reports that the items presented to the nonagenarian include: bags of rice, semovita, loaves of bread, provisions, groundnut oil, soaps and toiletries and an undisclosed amount of money.

Presenting the items, the president, Rotary club of Awka, Rotarian Somadina Okwelogu (PHF), said the gesture was in line with the club’s aim of putting smiles on people’s faces.

According to him, Rotary is an International Service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.

“We are here to visit this nonagenarian to tap from her grace and gift of longevity and give her the little we have for her blessings. The token is in line with Rotary calendar of economic and community development.

“It is in line with the club’s aim of putting smiles on people’s faces and we do that on daily bases. Charity is what we do everyday and every hour” he said.

Somadina however attributed longevity to the kind of food they eat and number of people they helped.

“People should be mindful of what they eat and as well always go for regular health check to ascertain their state of health. Secondly and most importantly, we should endeavour to help people we are better than. Charity is also a secret road to longevity” he said.

While the founder, Girl Child Destiny For Better Tomorrow, Amb. Maryann Ekeh-Izuchukwu who joined Rotary in the humanitarian service to Nibo expressed the important of girl child in the society, and advised parents to endeavour to take good care of their girl children.

Responding, the Nonagenarian, Madam Marble Nwogbo who was overwhelmed by the gesture thanked the Rotary club of Awka, GRA for remembering her and prayed God to bless and reward them.

www.odogwublog.com reports that she disclosed that she had five children but only three survived, adding that ageing gracefully runs in their veins.

“My elder brother, Mathew Nwajiobi died in March this year at the age of 100 years. My younger brother, Samuel Nwajiobi was 94 when he exited this world.

” The secret of longevity is good life, being fair to everyone and saying the truth at all time no matter whose horse is gored. Proper dieting may count but good lifestyle is my secret” she said.

On his part, one of her sons, Mr. Godwin Nkwoukwu Nwogbo said her mother when she married newly, makes it a point of duty to fetch water for all the elderly people from Umuanum village then.

“During that time according to what she told me, she fetches water and sweeps compound of all the old people from the village especially from Umuanum village.

” Her health started degenerating from 1986 when she developed a tumor, she had surgery at Enugu Teaching hospital. Since then till date, it has not been easy. We started taken care of her from then till date but God is our strength.

“I thank the Rotary club of Awka, GRA for this gesture. I have heard much about the humanitarian service of the Rotary club. I thank God for putting the seed of charity on the founders and may God reward them in Jesus name.
