The Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, has issued a fresh reminder directing all public primary and junior secondary schools in the state to stop the organization of graduation ceremonies, Christmas parties, and the collection of graduation levies.

In a circular dated 10th July, 2026 and signed by the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, the Board said the directive was in line with existing Anambra State Government policy prohibiting such activities in basic education schools.

The circular, addressed to Officers-in-Charge of LGEAs and Education Secretaries across the 21 Local Government Areas, stated that no primary or junior secondary school shall organize or permit any graduation ceremony, graduation levy, Christmas party, or any related activity inconsistent with the government’s directive.

“All school heads are directed to ensure strict compliance with this policy,” the circular read in part.

ASUBEB further directed LGEA officials and Education Secretaries to disseminate the reminder to all schools within their jurisdictions and to monitor compliance.

The Board warned that any violation of the directive would attract appropriate administrative sanctions.

The latest reminder comes amid growing concerns by parents over rising levies and elaborate ceremonies in non-terminal classes.

ASUBEB urged all stakeholders in the basic education sector to be guided accordingly and ensure full compliance.
