Ogbaukwu Cave and Water Fall in Anambra kicks off

The Ogbaukwu cave and water fall, at Owerre-Ezukala,Orumba South Council Area which has two hundred and five (205) well consolidated steps that lead to the water fall and iron rails on both sides to enhance smooth movement has been inaugurated.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state commissioned the tourist site together with a six room edifice containing four toilets and two bars within the area.

The event was attended by Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi represented by Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre, the Edo state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki and his Ondo state counterpart, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu represented by the state Arts and Culture Ambassador, Mr. Ozolua Kally and Mr Ayo Omotoso,respectively.

As well, Ogun state Governor, Mr Ibikunle Amosun represented by Mrs Omolola Adeyemi, and representative of Nigeria Tourism and Diaspora Commission, Mrs Grace Ukah, among others, graced the occasion.

Commissioning the site, Governor Obiano represented by the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artwork, Culture and Tourism,Mrs Sally Mbanefo disclosed that the state government has upgraded two tourist sites in less than one year.

He noted that the ultimate goal is for United Nations,Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, to identify with the project and take it to the next level, so as to create job opportunities for the youths.

In a speech, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa represented by Mr Tobechukwu Obienu, who said that Anambra is one of the leading state in diaspora affairs noted that the role of diaspora in nation building cannot be overemphasized as it will reposition the economy and accelerate economic recovery and growth.

In a remark the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya, expressed joy for the actualization of the project and appreciated the Governor for improving the tourism potential of the state.

On his part, the youth leader of the community, Mr Hillary Okafor, who thanked the Governor for his sustained work in Ogbaukwu cave pleaded for more interventions to lift the cave to an enviable height through infrastructural development and construction of road that leads to the tourist site, noting that it would create job opportunities, generate revenue to the governments and discourage youths from restiveness.

One of the tour guides, Mr Chike Achukwu, said that the waterfall is a healing water while the features in the cave are above human comprehension, as one can see a natural stone carved spanner, Gun, toilets, elephant foot and many more.
