Officials recover large amount of money from mentally challenged woman in Anambra

Government officials in Anambra state have confirmed that they recovered a large amount of cash from a mentally challenge teenager in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The recovery was made when the State’s Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, and other officials rescued the mentally challenged teenage nursing mother and her infant baby who lived dangerously in a gangway under Niger Bridge Onitsha.

Though the officials did not state the exact amount recovered from the teenager, they said the rescue was effected following a call to the Commissioner by an Asaba resident who ply the bridge to work at Nigeria Bottling Company Onitsha.

On receiving the call for help, the Commissioner deployed a team of social workers whom after days of planning and visits to the dangerous aboard of the nursing mother, successfully rescued her and her son.

During introgation which was personally conducted by Lady Ndidi Mezue at her office, the mentally challenged lady gave her name as Ngozi from Abia state and a former resident of Onitsha Army Barracks.

Speaking soon after the rescue, Lady Ndidi , said she was relieved that the difficult rescue operation was carried out successfully by the team and disclosed that the team equally recovered a large amount of money from her.

Ndidi expressed satisfaction that mother and child were being taken care of in government facility until the girl’s family comes forward to identify her.
