Nasarawa engages 503 Special constables for community policing

The Nasarawa state Police Command has formerly flagged off community policing in the state.

The state has engaged 503 special constables that will serve the state in that capacity.

The injection of the constables became pertinent due to the activities of men of the underworld, as kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery continue to climax almost on a weekly basis.

To this end,, the operatives of Nigeria Police Force, Nasarawa state command in the attempt to ground the activities of the criminals,trained 503 constables to serve as Special Community Policing (SCP) across the 13 local government areas of the state.

The Assitant Inspector General of police in charge of zone 4, policing Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau states, AIG Jonah Mava,made this known at a One Day Sensitization and Awareness Campaign in Lafia, the state capital on Monday.

He said out of the 503, 49 special costables had successfully passed out from the training in Makurdi, while the remaining 454 are currently undergoing training in Benue state.

His words: “We have trained 49 special community policing successfully while the remaining 454 are currently undergoing training in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.”AIG John concluded.

Earlier, governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state, while flagging off the sensitization and awareness campaign, said the programme was aimed at enlightening the members of the public on the significant roles of the security with a view to sustain participation, and collaboration of all, in addressing crime related issues in the state.

The governor, was represented by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe,however added that for the development of social economy activities to thrive all hands must be on deck with the security agencies in the state inorder to fight criminal elements.

He said: “I want to use this medium to urge members of the public to support the community policing. This will go a long way in fighting crime and criminality in the state and paving way for our social economy activities” Gov Sule added.

On his part, the state commissioner of police, Barrister. Bola Longe, retirated the commitment of the command towards fighting crime and criminality in the state.

According to him, “We will not allow criminals to ground our activities and subject innocent citizens to unnecessary fear leading to slowing down commercial activities in Nasarawa state”CP Longe.posited.
