Millennium College of Nursing Sciences, transforming standard of nursing education in South-East

Nestled in the heart of Awka city, Millennium College of Nursing Sciences has emerged as a beacon of excellence, transforming the landscape of nursing education in the Eastern region.
When the college took off in June 2022, as a HND-awarding higher institution, little was known about it, more especially being an institution that is owned by the church – the Anglican Diocese of Awka, Anambra State le by His Grace, Most Reverend Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim PhD, JP, Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop Awka Diocese, Anglican Communion.
The college’s rise to prominence has not gone unnoticed, stamping it’s mark as a respectable institution with a drive to fill gaps and reposition nursing education in the country.
With commitment to innovation, advanced teaching methodologies, and a focus on practical skills, the college, today, stands tall and at the forefront of shaping the next generation of compassionate and competent nurses.
The institution is not only setting unprecedented standards, it strives to revolutionize nursing education to meet the growing demands of a complex and dynamic healthcare environment.
Their innovative strategies to equip future nurses with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their roles had drawn commendations from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) after it became the first college in the Eastern region to write it’s entrance examination and Preliminary Training Session (PTS) using Computer-Based Training (CBT) method for evaluation.
NMCN also recorded that the college has set the pace for the CBT method of evaluation in the Eastern Region.
The Provost of the college, Mrs. Chisom Ezulike, in her account, stated that the college has well-equipped demonstration halls with simulators and models, and skilled nurse educators.
She also said the institution has well-equipped lecture halls, ICT halls with modern gadgets, well-equipped demonstration halls, enough structures for lectures and administration, as well as two coastal buses and qualified lecturers of adequate ratio.
She said the resources at the institution’s disposal have enabled the college to obtain 100% in their Mid-introductory examination, and also in their first semester year one examination.
She added also that even the exposure of students of the college to modern trends in nursing has given them an edge over their contemporaries.
She attributed the clinical posting of students to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, and Community Experience at various Health Centres in Awka South LGA to the feat achieved by the institution in the very short period it has existed, adding that such feat has led to an increased demand from students who are desirous of joining the college for nursing and midwifery courses.
Notwithstanding, and following the transformational feats of the college, Ezulike said NMCN recently granted the college its request for resource verification for the nursing department and full accreditation for the midwifery department to which the college scaled through and had their quota increased for the Nursing and Midwifery departments.
