Igwe Umueri gifts 4 cars, celebrates new yam

Igwe Beneth Izuchukwu Emeka (JP), Okebo II of Umueri community, Anambra State has gifted four new cars to three Anglican priests and his Palace Secretary while unveiling his new foundation- ‘Chinwatakweaku Foundation’.

The monarch gave out the cars as Umueri celebrated 2021 New yam festival cum unveiling of ‘Chinwatakweaku Foundation at his palace saying that the cars would aid the priests namely Rev. Tochukwu Samuel, Rev. Ikechukwu Anikpe, Rev. Chukwuemeka Nwazee in the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ and soul winning.

According to Igwe Emeka, “I and my wife decided to establish this foundation named ‘Chinwatakweaku’- my traditional name before I became Okebo II, to support the less privileged, offer scholarship to brilliant children whose parents are financially handicapped but we want to begin by encouraging newly ordained priests who had no cars to aid their Evangelical work and my able Palace Secretary, Tochukwu Chidiebere”.

Igwe Emeka after thanking God for a bumper harvest advised youths to shun restiveness, banditry, drug abuse and become good ambassadors of the community living in peace, love and unity.

Commending the monarch, former Chief Press Secretary to Anambra State Governor, High Chief Michael Ikechukwu Udah(Ojinnaka Umueri) said:”I am not surprised he doled out cars and set up a foundation. Even before ascending the throne he used to grade all roads in Umueri yearly without charges, gracias.

“In Igbo cosmology, yam occupies a premium place. You don’t march or desecrate yam and in my opinion I don’t see anything fetish in celebrating new yam”, said Udah.

Moreover, Chief Celestine Tagbo(Mmilinezoluora Umueri) flanked by Chief Peter Igboeli (Afaejiejemba Aguleri) described Igwe Emeka as a philanthropist who was going to do more for his community. He further eulogized Governor Willie Obiano for the landmark cargo/passenger international airport and Oil producing state status attracted to Anambra State.

Moreso, President General Umueri, Commander Charles Ifediorah, Chairman planning committee, Chief Chibuogu Emeka, Former Anambra Assembly Chief Whip, Barr. Uchenna Okonkwo Okom, High Chief Peter Erika Okoye(Odu Igbariam), Chairman Ifite Umueri Airport Land Committee, Chief Dr. Okechi Egbuna, Igwe Berger Chika Ubanese, Chief Sunny Eluemuno(Ochendo Umueri) in their separate speeches after describing Igwe Emeka as God-fearing said that new yam festival was a period of Thanksgiving, enjoyment and reflection of the transgenerational Igbo culture praying for God to prosper Umueri throne and Community.

Dignitaries present include President General, Oba of Idemili South, Rev Chris Emelie, Igwe Godwin Odiegwu(Ezedioramma Dikedim III of Abacha), Igwe Emeka Okezie(Okaije of Okija), Igwe Lt. Comm. Raymond Omoja of Owelle Anambra West amongst others. After eulogizing Igwe Umueri for his generosity and his colourful celebration called on community members to always support their leaders.

Highlights of the new yam festival include, church service, cultural dances, cutting of new yam, traditional wrestling, etc.
