Former Nkwelle Ezunaka Caretaker Chairman Elected As PG

Former chairman of, the Caretaker Committee, Nkwelle-Ezunaka community, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, Chief Willie Okafor, has been elected as the President General, PG, of the community.

His victory which was said to be unopposed even as he scored 340 votes, was a sequel to his past achievements in the community.

In his speech after the election, he described his emergence as the mandate of the people, stating that it would be a big task upon him as everybody in the community is expecting much from him.

“I want to assure them that I will take this town to the next level. I have done it before and I know I will do it again, there are a lot of things to do, to correct, but I know I will reach the destination with the help of the same people that elected me.

“It is going to be a collective effort because Nkwelle-Ezunaka people want their community to move forward like every other community and I commend Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his Commissioner for Chieftaincy, Local Government and Community Affairs for the conduct of the free, fair and credible election in our community,” he said.

Also on the bothering illegal activities of land grabbers he said that work has commenced, pointing out that land developers are free to buy land so long they abide by the community land law.

Contributing, Chief Victor Chukwunonso Izuchukwu, who emerged as 1st Vice, PG, with 282 votes, said that as a Deputy Commander General, Civilian ATF Nigeria, he would employ his wealth of experience in piloting the affairs of the community.

“I am very happy because in my community, I contribute a lot, rehabilitation of roads and making peace as I don’t tolerate nuisance but peace in the community.

“I am happy that they supported me during the election as they came out en masse to vote me as the Ist Vice, which they know that from March next year, something tangible will happen.

“My advice to trouble makers is for them to join the moving train, it is no longer quarrelling, fighting, I am a security consultant, I will go house to house, door to door to tell them to join us and make Nkwelle Ezunaka great,” he hinted.

On issue of activities of land grabbers he disclosed that he is the chairman of his Oze community, pointing out that there is no cause for alarm as the people’s properties are in safe hand.

“I told them to come and develop their properties, if the land is in crisis, I will tell the two parties to submit their documents, I will go through the documents and know the first person that bought the land, and I will give him his property, i told the land grabbers that it will be a thing of the past in Nkwelle.

Ogbuefi Gibson Nchekwube Udeagwu, a retiree from the Container Ports Authority, Apapa Wolf, the treasurer, said “From coming to the townhall meeting twice that i realised our town was collapsing, so I decided to come out to contest for a post in this election.

”We are coming up to repair Nkwelle, I know that this office of a treasurer is an engine room, I believe that the man elected as the PG is a capable hand, that is why I came out to contest and we will give Nkwelle what they want.

Swearing the elected executive members in, the Caretaker Committee chairman, Oyi Council Area, Hon. Emma Nweke Iga, described the election as free, fair and credible and reminded those elected that the development of the community is in their hands.

He stressed the need for the installation of elective executive adding that the State Government believes in an elected executives than caretaker committee to avoid problems that are usually associated with caretaker appointment.
