FMC,Keffi: Theater, ICU, Baby care, pipe and Dailysis building 100% – MD

The Medical Director and Chieff Executive Officer, Federal Medical Center Keffi,in Keffi local government area of Nasarawa state,Dr Yahaya Baba Adamu,has rolled out some of the modest achievements made under his two years of administration.

Dr Yahaya Adamu, said the construction work of the Dailysis unit has been100% completed and only waiting for the approval and released of the 2021 budget to enable the Medical center equip the unit for commencement.

He made this known on  in an exclusive interview on Wednesday,in his office at Keffi .

According to him, the Oxygen plant has been in used during the COVID-19  peak period,but he added that before the end of the first lap of the disease a lot of pressure was mounted on the plant ,that demanded  reservice.

” But because of the COVID lockdown ,we could not get the parts ,so as it is right now,the oxygen plant is temporarily closed.

” We have to be bringing oxygen from Abuja in the last one to two months now,why! Because the part as claimed to have been paid for ,they can not bring it in  simply for this reason  of the COVID travel restrictions,which has placed me really under stressed.

” This again is because importing the parts for the oxygen has been very very difficult,but we are hopeful that very soon we will get the part and service the plant for the needed usage” He said.

The Medical Director,further explained that the management of FMC Keffi , succedded in making sure that the Intensive Care Unit(ICU) is piped, Special Care Baby Unit ,is also piped and the Theaters which already have been piped all to the Oxygen plant.

Dr Yahaya Adamu ,pointed out that some of the projects he inherited has been completed and that  newer ones as the specialist clinic is about it roofing stage, adding that the isolation center which was never on ground in center has also been completed and ready to be  commission.

” The equipment contract has been awarded by NCDC and they are going to equip it very soon to be use.

” Our Lab that was under construction is the unit where we are doing our COVID testing,so we no longer send samples to Abuja ,we do our testing in-house , therefore none of the things we said then we’re theory.we have followed them up and we are still on it ,and at the availability of funds to us ,we are going to make sure our A&E is also connected to the Oxygen plant, already, it has been piped” Dr Baba said.

On whether there still exist cases of COVID-19 in the FMC Keffi, he said the cases has really gone down,noting that it is no longer frequent as it was in the beginning.

He said even the government policy now stipulated that only those that are  highly  symptomatic be admitted, maintaining that these categories of persons are today admitted once in a while,saying no body is on admission presently in the FMC Keffi.

” If there is any such case of COVID and is not highly symptomatic, we can managed the person in his home,except in a case where it becomes obvious to us that your home is not conducive enough to stay without infecting members of your family,this is when we have to advice you on admission” He added.

Dr Yahaya ,however maintained that almost all the patient of COVID now ,which dwindled are managed at their homes.

He assured  that when the Dailysis unit is fully equipped it will be available for service for between 4 to 8 patient at a time in a daily bases.
