Public health officers among others in Nasarawa state have been trained on how best to handle and bury dead bodies, especially those that died as a result of complications surrounding contagious diseases.

A team.led by Ahmed Darie from the Federal Ministry of Health, said the training was promoted as a result of the abnormalities or irregularities and gaps, discovered during the burial of the president’s late Chief of Staff, which was tantamount to transmitting of diseases to other persons.

Ahmed said this was against a normal situation,as it was supposed to be handled by professionals or trained personnels.

He said it was on that bases that the Minister of Health deemed it necessary to have a standby team at the National level, state and down to the local government levels.

” That is why we are conducting this training and after the training,we expect the state to cascade same training to the local government level.

“And those we have invited for the training are the public health officers, nurses, epidemiologists,DSLO and Directors , Environmental health officers in the state” He revealed.

According to him, there are 16 persons participating in each stage ,but for want of interest ,some persons had indicated interest for the training, which going by the budget estimate were not accommodated in the training.

He further explained that everything is centered on two key words, saying first was safety and dignity.

” This is so because, first whoever that is charged with the responsibility of preparing the dead body must ensure that they handle the dead bodies in such a way that he or she will not be infected and end up spreading it to members of the public in the community, when the dead body itself needs a dignified burial and not to be treated as an animal” Ahmed added.
