Fight Against Rape: Anambra Police Command Partners Human Rights Commission

A release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer Anambra state SP Haruna Mohammed said the purpose of the rally was to raise awareness against rape and make Anambra State a Rape-Free State.
As part of activities to mark a one week Campaign against Rape in Anambra State, the National Human Rights Commission Anambra State chapter led by the Coordinator Nkechi Flaura Ugwuanyi has paid a visit to the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command CP John Abang, at the State Command Headquarters Awka after a peaceful rally with a banner tagged, “Activism and campaign against Rape.”
Speaking during the visit, the State Coordinator Nkechi Flaura Ugwuanyi appealed to the CP to ensure discreet investigation of all rape cases in order to serve as deterrence to potential offenders in the State.
Responding, CP John Abang welcomed them to the State Command headquarters and assured them of his maximum support towards realizing their goal of making Anambra a Rape Free State.
The CP further stated that the Command under his watch will continue to partner with the Human Rights Commission and other Stakeholders in order to enhance safety and Security in the State.
He also revealed that between January 2020 to date, the Command has recorded thirteen cases of rape out of which twelve cases were charged to Court and still on trial, fourteen suspects arrested and one case under investigation.
In another development, the Commissioner of Police also met with hoteliers and discussed issues bordering on Security in the State as he urged them to as a matter of urgency install CCTV Cameras in all hotel premises and also do background checks on their staff as a proactive measure to enhance Safety and Security at their respective hotels.
