Father of four tries suicide over apparent failed plot to kill wife in Ondo

Following the alleged failed idea to kill his wife, a 42-year-old man, Awelewa, Monday, endeavored suicide at his residence in Powerline axis of Ijoka in Akure South Council Area of Ondo State when he jumped into a well.

It was gathered that the man who was said to have been jobless for a while had last week allegedly made an attempt to kill his wife when he inflicted a deep cut on her neck while she was fast asleep.

According to sources in the area, the father of four became violent when he was stopped by his children and neighbours who were alerted by the loud scream of the wife.

One of the sources disclosed that the man and his wife had for a while been having issues when she refused to lend him more money because he did not pay back the one he had earlier borrowed.

”When he heard that his wife and his father-in-law were coming and also heard that his father-in-law had reported his action at the police station, the man moved back with the belief that he wanted to get a chair to sit down.

But what we suddenly noticed was that he stood on the well nearby and jumped inside it. It took some sympathizers a few minutes to rescue him.

With the incident reported at the police station, the police spokesperson in the state, SP Funmilayo Odunlami said she was yet to be informed on the development.
