The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Abang, has urged the people of Anambra State to cooperate with his men and other security operatives in the battle against Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr John Abang who spoke in Awka, the State capital when a combined team of civil society groups and Ndigbo socio-political groups paid him a courtesy call in his office asked the people of the State to observe all the protocols which include social distancing, washing of hands with soap, applying alcoholic based sanitizer in their hands and wearing of face mask.

The groups are made up of Ndigbo Elders’ Forum, Ndigbo Unity Assembly, Ndigbo Patriotic Forum and South East based civil society groups CSOs.

Abang urged the youths of the State to desist from acts of criminality and other social vices that can lead them into regrettable situations.

Thanking the groups for the visit, the Commissioner of Police promised to do more to ensure that the people of the State sleep with their two eyes closed.

He prayed that God will steer the State out of this deadly and contagious pandemic.

Earlier in their address the groups thanked the Commissioner for his efforts to reduce crime in the State.

The spokesman of the groups, Dede Uzor A. Uzor, said they had assessed all the Commissioners of Police in the South East and South South and found out that only CP John Abang merited their award.
Accordingly, said Dede Uzor ” we have tipped him for our Excellence Award which will be jointly given by the two groups soon “.

He said Abang will be bestowed with the award due to his proactive stance to issues relating to crime and that he is the only Police Commissioner who has visited all the sister agencies in the State and broke the cold war among the agencies.

The groups said Abang was not lacking in display of milk of human kindness, having paid indigent People’s hospital bills to the tune of about N250,000.

“In his era, suspects of high profile crimes such Ikanda who allegedly murdered a trader from Onitsha Main Market , the criminal gangs who killed the Nimo Presidemt General and others were arrested and the bursting of armed robbery case at Fegee, Onitsha, where all the criminals were arrested” and no single incident of bank robbery and other high profile kidnapping activities has been recorded said Dede Uzor.
