CLO Demands Proactive Measure To Tackle Southeast Insecurity

Civil Liberties Organization, CLO. Weekend called on the three tiers of government to marshal out strategic and proactive plans to tackle insecurity and high crime rate in the country .

It condemned what it termed increased crime wave in the Southeast geo-political zone and stressed the need for all hands to be on desk towards making the area a better place to live in.

Making the condemnation while reacting to the recent commemoration of the 75th anniversary of declaration of human rights, its State chairman, Evangelist comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, lamented that Government that has sole responsibility of ensuring the safety of lives and properties of the people have turned to the other side for criminals to continue to give the residents nightmare.

” We decry with great disdain the outrageous insecurity, kidnapping, armed robbery, killings, violence, arson and criminalities very rampant in the country especially in Southeast. It is no longer exaggeration but existential reality that there is no day that passes in the Southeast without recorded violent crimes, armed robbery. Kidnappings and killings,” he stated.

He also called on President Bola Tinubu to release the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to douse political tension in Southeast zone and beyond adding that it would help in restoration of economic activities.

The CLO boss lamented that two prominent Igbo sons, Chief Mbazuluike Amechi and former Anambra State Governor, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, who pleaded to former President Mohammadu Buhari to release Kanu, have died without their plea being looked into.

“President Tinubu should kindly and patriotically release Kanu as a great tribute to their memories. Also we wish to reiterate our earlier plea to Tinubu to direct the Minister of Works. David Umahi to pay on the spot assessment to the deplorable roads in the Southeast especially the Onitsha/Owerri, Onitsha/Enugu and Onitsha/Otuocha/Omor road with a view to working on them to curtail deaths on those roads,” he pleaded.

The CLO chairman frowned at the inability of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to conduct local Government election lamenting that it was in the time of Mr Peter Obi as governor of the state that local government election was conducted last.

He also demanded for payment of compensation to EndSars victims by Governor Soludo’ implementation of the report on EndSars which has since been awaited for.

The House Member representing Onitsha 11 in the state house of assembly in an interview with Newsmen said that declaration of human right simples epitomises the declaration of rights that are fundamental to human, by virtue of being humans, fundamental which is right to life, that is right to dignity of human persons, that is life against torture and unnecessary humiliation, again the right to freedom of association, freedom of movement, and freedom of conscience.

“These rights are universally acclaimed as basic and fundamental, by virtue of we, human beings is being the case, what is doing today is like microscopic aspirations of the people, I will say they are extremely doing very well, always reminding us constantly that this is the way to go.

” Coming to Nigeria, what activist are advocating is one, governance, secondly, good electoral process,which will ensure the election of credible people to ensure that those things declared in the declaration of human right are achieved, you cannot achieve them without credible elections, you can’t achieve them with rigging because it is almost impossible for a man who comes to lead you, to cheat you in the process of coming there and they expect you to perform wonders.

“How do you get success in an election, the question is how did you get there, is it going to indicate that going there as a leader, that you are going to continue with that fraud because ones the foundation are faulty, nothing works well.

” What happened in Nigeria in the last presidential election were validated by the court and security agents have taken Nigeria back to 50 years because it will engineer voter apathy and these are the things we have been fighting for, where the electoral umpire turned against the people and became the instrument of manipulation of the will of the people, theses are the things declaration of human rights stands for

Hghlight of the event was lecture on crime and cyber crime by the Onitsha Central Police station Divisional Police Officers. DPO. Mr. Rabiu Garba, cutting of anniversary cake and presentations of award of Excelence to Hon.Justice Veronica Umeh represented by His Honour Nkechi Ezeani, Chief Registrar High Court retired among others.

Those that graced the occasion included the State chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Onitsha Police Area Commander. Mr.Gregry Itobore, chairman of International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law. Intersociety, Nze Emeka Umeagbalasi, among others.
