Traders at Abada International Market in Ogbaru are set to enjoy easier access to affordable healthcare as the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) intensified its enrolment campaign to expand health insurance coverage across the state.

The sensitization exercise, led by the Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, on July 1, educated traders on the benefits of enrolling in the state’s health insurance scheme and the importance of financial protection against unexpected medical expenses.

The campaign followed ASHIA’s recent engagement with market leaders at the headquarters of the Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), as part of ongoing efforts to increase health insurance enrolment among traders and other informal sector workers.

During the exercise, Dr. Ezeka highlighted the agency’s commitment to making quality healthcare affordable and accessible to all residents. He also announced plans to establish ASHIA offices and deploy desk officers within Abada International Market to make registration and other services more convenient for traders.

The Chairman of Abada International Market, Chief Basil Uzoh, commended ASHIA for bringing the campaign directly to the market, describing the initiative as a significant step toward improving healthcare access for traders. He encouraged market members to take advantage of the scheme by enrolling promptly to enjoy its health and financial benefits.

The outreach forms part of ASHIA’s broader drive to achieve universal health coverage by ensuring that more Anambra residents, especially those in the informal sector, have access to affordable and quality healthcare services.
