Enugu Anglican Diocese has announced that its forthcoming Synod will go beyond spiritual renewal to confront pressing national issues, including governance, insecurity, the economy, and preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

Speaking ahead of the 3rd Session of the 19th Synod in Enugu, the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Ike, said the gathering comes at a critical moment for both the Church and the nation.

The Synod, themed “Revival Levels: A Prepared Heart to Study, to Do and to Teach the Word of God,” is scheduled to hold from June 24 to June 28, 2026, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ogbete — the historic birthplace of the Diocese.

Bishop Ike lamented the persistence of poor governance despite the growth of Christianity in Nigeria, stressing that genuine spiritual revival can inspire national transformation.

According to him, discussions during the Synod will cover governance, democracy, electricity supply, insecurity, education, the economy, the delayed Eastern Rail Project, and the political outlook ahead of 2027.

“We respect authority, but we will speak the truth about what is happening in our nation so that those willing to listen can act,” he said.

Renowned evangelist Gbile Akanni will minister during the opening sessions, while former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, will lead the Synod Thanksgiving Service on June 28.
