ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND REACTS TO VIRAL VIDEO OF OFFICER’S MISCONDUCT

The Anambra State Police Command has officially reacted to a viral video making rounds on social media showing a Police Officer issuing threats and displaying conduct considered unbecoming of an officer of the Nigeria Police Force.

Following an immediate review of the video, the Command identified and arrested the officer involved, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Newton Isokpehi, who is currently serving within the Command.

The Police Command disclosed that internal disciplinary procedures have already commenced against the officer in line with the ethics and disciplinary standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the officer has also undergone a drug test to help authorities determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure a transparent process.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD, strongly condemned the officer’s actions, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined institution that will not tolerate misconduct, abuse of office, incitement, or any form of unprofessional behaviour capable of damaging public confidence.

The Command further assured Ndi Anambra and members of the public that the outcome of the disciplinary process will be made public, while any officer found guilty will face appropriate sanctions in line with police regulations and the law.

The Police also reminded officers and personnel of the Command to remain professional, emotionally disciplined, and respectful while carrying out their duties, especially at a time when public scrutiny remains high.

The Command appreciated residents, civil society organisations, and social media users for providing credible information that helps improve accountability and service delivery, while encouraging the public to continue reporting any act capable of threatening public peace and safety.
