Ambassador Chizoba Amutigwe Peace Initiative gives scholarship , begs youths on peace

Ambassador Chizoba Amutigwe Peace Initiative (ACAPI) has ended its one day peace workshop at Umueri Recreation Club House Otuocha, Anambra East with a charge on youths to always sue for peace at all times.

The convener of ACAPI, Ambassador Chizoba Amutaigwe at the end of the workshop announced a scholarship scheme for to one person each from the schools that participated in the workshop. They would be trained in the University after the Secondary School scholarship if there are more resources.

Ambassador Amutigwe insisted that Anambra East needed the peace Initiative workshop because so many communities in the council area are having one communal crisis to the other.

He said that the need to organise such programme was in fulfilment of his promise when he was recently given an award as ambassador of peace, where he pledged to preach peace wherever he is.

While urging all youths to embrace peace for a better and secure future, Ambassador Amutigwe reminded that youths should champion peace initiatives at all times no matter the circumstance.

Earlier in an address, Chairman on the occasion and the Director media and communication, South East Governor’s forum, Chief Mike Udah, said that the event is apt, as the need for peace towards the growth and development of every society cannot be over emphasised, especially in Anambra East Council Area being the Local Government origin of the convener.

While admitting that crisis is bedevilling Anambra East communities , Udah advocated that ways of mitigating the crisis in Anambra East be discovered to enable the council area have a crisis free and violence free council area.

He said: ‘’ …..there are crisis in Anambra East. …these crisis are vividly identifiable. They include the Umueri-Aguleri perennial crisis, the Aguleri-Anam faceoff, the Nando-Igbariam skirmishes and the Nneyi –Umueri-Nsugbe brouhaha.

‘’I believe fervently that this workshop can meaningfully tackle the challenges posed by these and other crisis within the Anambra East Council area. I know that with God, everything is possible and that sometimes (I not most times) , the Almighty Father uses human beings to perform His (Miraculous) work.

In his keynote speech, a University Don, Professor Harris Ike-Odumegwu advised youths to sue for peace even at their own expense since without peace there would be no harmony.

Professor Ike-Odumegwu who is currently the Director , Migration Center Unizik and immediate past Dean School of Post Graduate Studies of same University spoke on the theme “why peace”, describing the theme of the one day workshop, ‘’ Achieving peace in Anambra East’’.

He said only peace can enthrone development and growth in the society adding that it takes courage to secure peace and wisdom to maintain peace.

He traced the definition and meaning of peace from Christianity, Islam, African, Western and Asian leaders point of view insisting that youths as agents of change, should always toe the path of peace which must come from within, in order to engender enduring peace in the larger society.

In her remarks , one of the daughters of Umueri community who is also an academia, Professor Ogugua Ikpeze, while commending the convener for the initiative, Ambassador Chizoba Amutigwe for initiating the worksshop on peace which she said is needed in all facets of life, charged youths to always toe the path of peace for them to be successful in life.

Corps members and youths from various communities that make up Anambra East Council Area attended the peace workshop organised by Chizoba Amutigwe Peace Initiative.

Some of the Secondary schools in attendance included Community Secondary School Umueri, Community Secondary school Nando, Emmanuel International Secondary school, Umueri , Archbishop Patterson Secondary school , Igbariam among others. Members of the NYSC were in attendance.

Rev Canon Onyeacholam Sylvanus prayed for peace to be enthroned in Anambra East.
