Bishop Ikeakor Accepts NUJ Anambra Keynote Speaker Invitation

Preparations have gathered momentum for the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Man of the Year Award, Press Week Grand Finale and the celebration of the Union’s 35th anniversary, scheduled to hold on September 10, 2026.
As part of activities lined up to ensure the success of the event, the leadership of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Amichi, the Rt. Rev’d Okechukwu Ephraim Ikeakor, at his office.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, and comprised members of the State Working Committee (SWC) as well as the 2026 NUJ Man of the Year Award Planning Committee.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Odogwu said the delegation came to formally present the Bishop with a letter of invitation and request him to serve as the keynote speaker at the forthcoming event.
According to the NUJ Chairman, the visit also provided an opportunity for the Union to seek the Bishop’s fatherly counsel and wealth of experience towards ensuring a successful celebration.
Describing Bishop Ikeakor as a respected sage, Dr. Odogwu said the Union considered his wisdom and guidance invaluable, adding that his presence would greatly enrich the event.
On behalf of the Union, the Chairman officially presented the invitation letter to Bishop Ikeakor, requesting him to grace the occasion as the keynote speaker for the NUJ Anambra State Council’s 35th Anniversary Celebration, Press Week Grand Finale and the 2026 Man of the Year Award.
The Bishop was also presented with the latest edition of Watchdog, the Union’s official magazine, published during the previous Man of the Year celebration.
Responding, Bishop Ikeakor warmly accepted the invitation and expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Union for considering him worthy of such an important responsibility.
He thanked the NUJ for the honour bestowed on him and pledged his support towards the success of the event.
The visit also featured an interactive session, during which members of the State Working Committee and the 2026 Man of the Year Planning Committee exchanged ideas with the Bishop on issues relating to the forthcoming celebration.
The 2026 NUJ Anambra Man of the Year Award, Press Week Grand Finale and the Union’s 35th anniversary celebration are expected to bring together media professionals, government officials, religious leaders, traditional rulers, captains of industry and other stakeholders to celebrate excellence in journalism and honour individuals who have made remarkable contributions to society.
