Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has lifted a five-year employment embargo, approving the recruitment of 1,000 indigenes into the state civil service to boost the workforce and tackle unemployment.

The Bayelsa Civil Service Commission, in a letter signed by its Permanent Secretary, Stanley Sokari, announced the recruitment, which has already drawn over 10,000 applications. Commission Chairman, Perekiye Buruboyefe, assured a transparent selection process through screening tests and interviews.

The initiative, the first major hiring since 2019, aims to engage youths productively, reduce crime, and strengthen the government’s bond with citizens. It aligns with ongoing infrastructure projects, including the ₦46 billion state secretariat complex, set to provide a modern workspace for civil servants.
