85 Nigerians, Including Inmates, to Arrive Lagos from US; 116 Still in Detention

The United States is set to deport 85 Nigerians, who are expected to arrive in Lagos on Monday evening.
Confirming the development, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed in a statement that an additional 116 Nigerians remain in detention across US immigration centers.
Signed by her media aide, Magnus Eze, the statement raised concerns about the deportation process, urging the US government to adopt a more humane approach.
“Currently, 201 Nigerians are being held in US immigration facilities, with 85 already cleared for deportation,” the statement noted.
In a post on her official X account, the minister announced, “US Deportations Begin.”
US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr., confirmed that among those being deported are individuals who had been serving prison sentences in the US.
