A group, the Coalition of Arewa Youth Organisations, says it is almost certain that Nigerian youths will soon takeover the leadership of the country, going by recent developments.

Mr Isaac David, the acting coordinator of the group, said this when he addressed a news conference on Monday in Abuja.
David said that the election of a 25-years-old Mohammed Kadade, as the National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a pointer to the fact that Nigerian youths were getting ready to takeover leadership of the country.

He said the emergence of Kadade as a party youth leader would enhance youth participation in the political process, saying that his election would also motivate other youths to strive for leadership positions in the country.
“There is still hope that a day will come when a youth will take over the affairs of this nation at the highest level. It a clear fact that the energy and brightness of the minds of youths act as torch bearer for national development.

“The countries that utilise their youth in positive direction are more developed. Youths are the trustees of posterity of every nation.
“Youths in the Nigerian Constitution are referred to as persons between ages 18 and 35. So, how come the youth leaders of most of the political parties are above 50 years?

“This question and many more are part of the problems facing the youth and have incapacitated them to fully partake in issues of nation building,” he said.
David expressed optimism that a youth would become the President of Nigeria in the nearest future and enjoined youths that have been given the opportunity to serve as a leaders, not to disappoint the country. (NAN)
