The Imo Government has assured residents of its commitment to the provision of social services, in line with its 3R mantra of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery.

Special Adviser to Gov. Hope Uzodimma on Political Matters, Mr Vitus Nwadike, gave the assurance on Monday in Owerri during the launch of a Volunteer Center and Local Advice Service Programme, a private sector driven initiative.

Nwadike lauded the initiative, describing it as timely, given the increasing Imo population and challenges it posed in the provision of social services for the entire residents.
He identified social services as vital for the smooth day-to-day running of the state and thanked the initiators of the programme for their forethought.

“One of the main objectives of this administration is the provision of social infrastructure and services for our teeming population.
“We are grateful to the initiators of this programme and want to assure them that we will be there when it will be unveiled at Aboh Mbaise on Nov. 12,” Nwadike said.
In a speech, the Founder and Coordinator of the programme, Mr Mike Odu, said the programme had been in existence in some parts of the world for a long period.

He said the programme was introduced in Imo out of the belief in the state government’s willingness to partner the facilitators toward fulfilling its social contract with the people.
He called on government to support the programme financially to ensure its success.
Also, Odu’s Special Assistant, Mr Kelechi Onyema, said the programme would help to better the lot of its beneficiaries.
Onyema identified unaffordability of basic social services in Imo as a huge challenge to the government.
