The Anambra State Ministry of Lands has urged holders of old land titles who are yet to undergo the ongoing recertification exercise to complete the process before Dec. 31, when the old land administration system is scheduled to be shut down indefinitely.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Nkeiru Mokwe, Esq., made the call in a reminder to title holders, urging property owners to update their records promptly to protect their property interests and avoid difficulties with future land transactions.

According to the ministry, holders of old Certificates of Occupancy whose documents have not been recertified and captured in the Anambra State Geographic Information System (ANAMGIS) database will no longer be able to access certain land-related services after the deadline.

Affected transactions include mortgages, Deeds of Assignment, Certificates of True Copy (CTC), Irrevocable Powers of Attorney and other transactions requiring processing through the Ministry of Lands.

The ministry explained that the recertification exercise is intended to update existing land records and integrate them into the State’s current digital land administration system.

Mrs. Mokwe, therefore, advised title holders who have not commenced the process to submit their applications without further delay, ensuring that their property records are captured before the Dec. 31 deadline.

She stressed that early compliance would help property owners safeguard their interests and minimise potential disruptions when accessing land administration services.

The ministry urged affected title holders to treat the deadline seriously and complete the recertification process ahead of the shutdown of the old system.
