SUBJECT: CLO EXTOLS DISTINGUISHED SENATOR PRINCESS STELLA ODUAH, OON, FOR HER HISTORIC FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH AND SPORTS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE – CALLS IT A MODEL OF RESPONSIVE AND COMPASSIONATE LEADERSHIP
PREAMBLE / INTRODUCTION:
The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State Branch, the oldest, foremost and most respected human rights organization in Nigeria, has observed with immense satisfaction and profound gratitude, the uncommon patriotism, selflessness, sensitivity, motherly compassion and people-oriented leadership of Distinguished Senator Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah, OON, former Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District.
In a time when public trust in political leadership is waning and citizens are burdened by economic hardship, high cost of living and exorbitant medical bills, Senator Oduah has risen to the occasion and demonstrated that true leadership is about service, sacrifice and sensitivity to the critical and life-saving needs of the people.
THE OUTREACH – FACTS AND FIGURES:
We wish to place on record and commend Senator Oduah for her ongoing 10-Day Free Medical Outreach Programme currently holding at:
- Okpoko General Hospital, Ogbaru LGA
- Fegge General Hospital, Onitsha South LGA
And extending to other designated medical centers across Anambra North Senatorial District.
According to verified reports from our field monitors, medical personnel and beneficiaries on ground, the outreach has recorded overwhelming success:
- Over 60 major and life-saving surgeries have been successfully performed absolutely FREE OF CHARGE, including but not limited to:
i. Hernia Repair
ii. Fibroid Removal
iii. Hydrocele Operations
iv. Eye Surgeries (Cataract, Pterygium)
v. Lipoma Excision
vi. Appendectomy and other general surgeries - Thousands of constituents have benefited from free medical consultations, free laboratory tests, free screening for hypertension, diabetes, malaria, free drugs and free counselling.
Comrade Onyeka Obi CLO member, beneficiary thanks tremendously Sen.Oduah for the free medical outreach as he was operated for hernia by seasoned and experienced expatriates medical doctor 100% free.He told us that he felt like he travelled for medical treatment abroad. - Most remarkably, Senator Oduah has instituted a sustainable policy that all citizens aged 65 years and above in Anambra State are entitled to free medical treatment under her health intervention scheme. This is unprecedented elder-care, social protection and humane governance worthy of national replication.
This is contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Awka, Anambra State, and jointly endorsed by Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme AMBP-UN (Chairman) and Comrade Chidi Mbah (Secretary).
IMPACT ASSESSMENT – RESTORATION OF HOPE:
It is an existential reality and an irrefutable truth that this medical outreach has:
- Restored life to those who had lost hope of survival
- Restored good health and physical strength to the sick and weak
- Restored dignity to the poor who could not afford medical bills
- Restored hope and smiles to families who were in despair
- Reduced mortality rate and preventable deaths in the zone
Health, indeed, is wealth. A healthy nation is a wealthy nation. Good health is the foundation of economic prosperity, productivity, creativity and happiness. Without health, nothing else matters.
Senator Oduah has proven beyond every reasonable doubt that effective representation transcends lawmaking at the Red Chambers; it must also involve life-saving, life-touching and life-lifting interventions at the grassroots.
BEYOND HEALTH – INVESTMENT IN SPORTS:*
The CLO Anambra State Branch equally and sincerely thanks Distinguished Senator Stella Oduah for sponsoring the Anambra North Tennis Open Competition 2026.
This is not just a competition, but a strategic investment in:
- Physical fitness and healthy living
- Mental alertness and sound mind
- Youth empowerment and talent discovery
- Peace, unity and social cohesion
- Crime prevention, as it engages our youths positively and steers them away from drug abuse, cultism, internet fraud and other social vices.
The nexus between sports and health cannot be overemphasized. A healthy mind in a healthy body remains the panacea for a productive society.
OUR CALL TO ACTION:
In view of the above laudable achievements, the CLO Anambra State Branch makes the following passionate calls:
a) To Political Leaders: We call on all political office holders – Senators, Members of House of Representatives, Members of State House of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen, and political appointees – to emulate Senator Stella Oduah’s kindness, golden heart, milk of human kindness and humanitarian disposition. Leadership must be about the people.
b) To Public-Spirited Individuals: We call on captains of industry, business moguls, philanthropists, market leaders, town unions and well-meaning Anambrarians to join hands with government and replicate such medical outreaches in their respective communities. An injury to one is an injury to all.
c) To Beneficiaries: We urge all beneficiaries to take good care of their health, adhere strictly to medical advice and remember Senator Oduah in their prayers.
CONCLUSION AND PRAYER:
Senator Princess Stella Oduah has once again demonstrated that she is:
- A mother with a compassionate heart
Posterity will be kind to her. History will remember her kindly. The people of Anambra North will never forget this golden gesture.
