A total of 1,000 new students of Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Enugu, on Monday, took their matriculation oath, as the university marked its 15th matriculation ceremony.
The number comprised the students admitted into the Faculties of Management and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies, Education, Arts, Law, and College of Medicine.
In an address entitled: “My Letter To MAT 24”, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr Christian Anieke, advised the new students to see challenges they would encounter in the university as a stepping stone to good discoveries.

Anieke said that the institution’s policies were not aimed at interfering in the freedom of the students, but to train them to be better citizens who would be useful to society.
“Therefore, you should make reading your way of life and pray always. Avoid bad company, laziness, and other negative actions that can affect the achievement of your dreams.
“You should make your voice heard on campus by being peace champions or winning prizes in competitions organized within and outside the university.
“Be a global player, rather than local champions,” Anieke said.
In his goodwill message, the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, Most Rev. Chibuzo Opoko, described GOUNI as a university with a difference.
Opoko reminded the students that what they would learn in the classroom would make a difference in their lives in the future.
