Unizik to incorporate Coding as GS course — VC says

The Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka ,Prof. Charles Esimone has urged the MICTU unit of the school to make a proposal to incorporate Coding as a General studies course in the school.

Prof.Charles made the statement at the Art of Software coding (AoS) competition held on 2nd March, 2024 at the ASUU/NAU Secretariat at the school. He added that it was in line with his project 200 which is aimed at making Unizik one of the best university worldwide.

He said the MICTU is in a very strategic position to thrive coding and so urged them to initiate a proposal for it’s actualization.
He applauded the Director of the MICTU and organizer of the summit, Dr. Azubuike Aniedu for the “out-of-the-brain” idea whilst recalling the first time they talked about it about two years ago .

“About two years ago, Dr. Azubuike and some students went to University of Nsukka for a similar competition. When they came back, I urged him to host something similar here in Unizik. I am happy seeing it happening today”,he said.

Dr. Azubuike speaking at the summit enjoined the students to partner with them whilst welcoming them to the competition.
The competition itself was tough. The competition consisted of five different teams pitching the software developed by them which seeks to solve social problems.

The teams include, Team pears, who developed a software to teach courses online, Team Eco beam developed an app that will help in managing waste disposal, Team gradescriptive on the other hand developed an app that will aid in marking scripts . Also Team Tezon developed a software ,Medinfo that will give out medical advice, lastly Team Faraday developed a website called .faraday.africa which seeks to unite all university students Nationwide in one platform.

The winner of the competition Team Ecobeam ( Miss Sylvia Adimike) described the event as fulfilling and exciting. She stated that tech has a huge role to play in all ramifications in the world.
The first runner-up and second runner-up, Team Tezon and Team Faraday respectively expressed gratitude for such an opportunity and promised to do better.

The MICTU promised all the participants mentorship and to also make them see the limelight
