UNIZIK Mass Communication Dept Unveil Plans To Hold Maiden Edition Of ‘Town And Gown Series’

The Mass Communication Department of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in coalition with Beyond Community Care Foundation, BCCF, has disclosed strategies to hold maiden edition of her “Town and Gown Series”.

The event is slated to hold on Thursday, August 19, 2021.

Addressing Journalists at a press briefing in Awka, the Head of Mass Communication Department of the institution, Professor Chinwe Uzochukwu, disclosed that the event will attract eminent practitioners, renowned broadcasters and media managers such as Messrs Jika Atoh, Emma Agu and Ken Eseni of African Independent Television, AIT, who will interact with students on the practical issues in the industry, so as to prepare them for successful careers in the fast changing world of media and communication.

Correspondent, Chibuzo Obidike, reports that the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr. Uche Nworah, and the former Commissioner for Information in Anambra, Chief Tony Onyima are also expected to play prominent roles at the event, as co-chairmen.

Professor Uzochukwu said the theme, “Exploring Emerging Opportunities in Media and Communication” will highlight the objective of the event to bring  valuable interface between the classroom and industry.

While inviting the general public to the event, Professor Uzochukwu, appreciated their partners and promised that the outing will be a fruitful and educative  for all to benefit in all aspects of life.

On his part, the Director of BCCF, Mr Onuora Aninwobodo noted that the Foundation is a non-governmental and not-for- profit organization, with the aim of developing people and lifting humanity from poverty and hopeless.

He also explained that BCCF was birthed by Chief Dennis Ezebuilo from Amanuke and that it’s work is shown in different efforts to uplift the needy in communities across Nigeria and beyond, cutting across provision of affordable and accessible education and healthcare services for the old and the young.

In a vote of thanks,  a former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Stella Okuna thanked the organization for the move which according to her, will be of great benefit to the department and institution in general.
