President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Kayode Opeifa as the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC). Dr. Opeifa, who previously served as Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation under Governor Babatunde Fashola, gained recognition for his transformative contributions to the transport sector. He also played a key role in addressing the Apapa gridlock as Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Task Team, under the leadership of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Opeifa succeeds Ben Iloanusi, who served as acting Managing Director following the exit of Fidet Okhiria in October 2024 after completing his tenure. Widely regarded for his expertise, Opeifa’s leadership is expected to revitalize Nigeria’s railway system. His achievements in modernizing Lagos State’s transport infrastructure and ensuring efficient systems in the Federal Capital Territory during his tenure as Transport Secretary have bolstered confidence in his capabilities. Dr. Opeifa’s appointment is seen as a recognition of his significant contributions to Nigeria’s transportation sector, with expectations that he will develop an interconnected, efficient railway system to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
