Midnight Fire Destroys Over 500 Stalls in Sokoto Timber Market

A midnight fire has gutted more than 500 stalls at the Sokoto State timber market, popularly known as Karan Katako, causing significant damage to the facility. The chairman of the timber shed market, Modi Maje Maikatako, revealed that the disaster has affected around 4,000 traders, with losses estimated in the billions of naira. Maikatako noted that all precautionary measures were in place at the market, but the fire occurred under mysterious circumstances, devastating a large portion of the market. This incident follows a series of recent fire disasters in Sokoto. In January, a blaze in the Sokoto metropolis claimed the lives of the Secretary to the State Government’s daughter and her three children. Similarly, in March 2024, an early-morning fire destroyed over 180 stalls at the Sokoto State Central Market.
